Meet the Voices: Each Section Crafting Our Choir’s Signature Sound
In the world of choral music, our choir is like a wonderful puzzle. Each piece has its own special sound, and when they fit together, it’s magic! Just like in a rainbow, there are different colours, our choir has different types of voices. These are called sections. Each section sings a different part of the song. Let’s meet the sections and find out what makes them unique!
In the Tredegar Orpheus Male Voice Choir, we have four main sections that make up our Welsh Male Choir, and each one is special in its own way: First Tenors, Second Tenors, First Bass, and Second Bass. When you listen to our choir, it’s like hearing a story that’s told in many different voices, all working together to say something beautiful.

The First Tenors are the high-flyers of the choir, reaching up to sing the brightest, tallest notes. Imagine them like the tips of the Welsh mountains, standing proud and strong.
The Second Tenors are pretty high singers too, like the green hills that roll just beneath the mountain peaks. They add extra bits to the tune that make you want to tap your feet.
Then we have the First Bass voices. They’re the deep, rumbling sounds that are as majestic as the deep valleys of Wales. Their voices are so powerful, you might feel them in your tummy!
The Second Bass are even deeper — they’re like the roots of a sturdy oak tree, holding everything steady and strong. They’re the warmth in the music that wraps around you like a cosy Welsh blanket on a chilly evening.
When all these different voices come together, something really special happens. It’s like all of Wales is coming together in song. That’s the magic of a Welsh Male Choir; it’s not just about singing a tune, it’s about sharing the heart and soul of Wales with every note we sing. And just like a family, each voice is important to make the choir complete. So come along and listen — we promise it’ll be a treat for your ears!
